Match Report
Marlborough College Malaysia Boys-U18A vs  Kolej Tuanku Ja'Afar
On: Saturday, 25 Nov 2017
Venue: Away

Despite the disappointment of entering the Plate competition, we entered as the highest point scorers of all eight teams. We shook off the early morning disappointment and in the first 30 seconds played some of the best football I have seen us play as manager this season. Raffi collected a loose ball, rolled the ball wide to Dion, who in two touches carried the ball and played it up the wing to Harvey. Harvey held on to the ball for just the right amount of time and played the ball into Henrik and then himself moved back wide, taking a defender with him. Henrik's first time lay off was perfectly played to Kevan who's third man run was also timed perfectly alongside Harvey's pass to Henrik. One touch saw Kevan find space and his second saw him emphatically smash the ball into the roof of the net from outside the area. A perfect goal, inside 19 seconds saw us start off to a flyer. However, in our confidence, a lack of concentration followed and we were shortly brought back down to earth when we failed to clear the ball from a freekick and KTJ capitalised and made it 1-1.

With the pressure of a knockout game, the boy's did not play as calmly as they should and neither side really made any real chance in the second half. The game was ultimately decided by penalties. Having been in the situation myself I knew exactly what the boy's needed to hear and despite having my own list of takers, I ensured the boy's had the chance to step up. Testament to Henrik and Kevan's character, their hands went up as soon as I asked the question. Henrik struck his penalty low and hard into the left corner to put us 1-0 up. Raffi then stood strong and made an excellent save to his right. Kevan stepped up and put his penalty away to make it 2-0 after two, leaving the KTJ player requiring to score, just to keep them in the game. With Raffi formidable in goal as always, the player struck his penalty wide and MCM got through to the semi-finals.

MVP - Raffi
