Match Report
Marlborough College Malaysia Boys-U14A vs  Marlborough College Straits Rugby 10's
On: Saturday, 20 Jan 2018
Venue: at Home

Overall a pleasing day at the office for the U14's today finishing in 3rd place.

The first game against SCC was a loss 7-12. A great break and finish by Tom Pike which kept us in the game but unfortunately we were caught a bit cold against a good SCC team who would go undefeated the whole day.

Another slow start in our second match against KL Tigers, gifting them a try straight from the kick off. Tom Pike once again got us back into the game through a well worked backs move and a well weighted pass from Will Roue. Unfortunately as the boys pushed for a second score KL Tigers broke away to score unopposed under the posts.

The boys started to play some excellent structured play and this came together with some strong defence in the third game. A well worked try which started from our own 22m line and finished with Tom Pike scoring in the corner once again. From the resulting kick off, Will Roue ran an excellent linke from a Marcus Medcraft pass and finished it under the posts. Will then turned provider once again, with a beautiful offload to Tom who went in unopposed. Marcus finished off the scoring with a snipe down the blind side from a scrum. At this point Dominic Sullivan was being a menace all around the field, making numerous tackles and turnovers. This would be a pattern of the day as he put in performance after performance in defence. A win in the third game 26-5.

The fourth game of the day and the heat was starting to take it's toll on the players but a grudge match against Tanglin RC was a great motivator for the boys. Once again Will Roue finished an excellent team try, some nice phases and strong carries from the forwards got the team going forward and the backs finished off with some good footwork and nice handling. TRC score their own try to make it a close encounter. However, long cross-field kick meant there was only going to be one winner as Tom Pike once again outpaced the defence to score under the posts. 12-7 win.

The final game was a scrappy affair and the boys made it very tough for themselves. After another length of the field try from Tom, Tristan Lim finished a well worked try with a strong carry to score under the posets. A yellow card followed by a red meant that it was 8v10 and the remaining players dug in deep. However, Dragons had got themselves back to 14-10 with a minute remaining. A strong run from Archie Triggs who released Marcus down the wing to finish off the game in style. 21-10 win.

A special mention must go to Dominic, Oliver Wright and James Muller who came up from the U13's for this tournament and put in some excellent performances. Well done to the whole squad on a hard days work.
