Match Report
Marlborough College Malaysia 1st XI vs  Asia Youth Football Academy
On: Saturday, 14 Oct 2017
Venue: at Home

Our second and final group game saw both teams knowing a win would take them through to the semi-finals. Before the game, having reflected on the game against Medini, and then observed Medini play Asia Youth Football Academy, it was clear to see success was going to come from playing wide and stretching the pitch.

Finding correct wide positions has been an achilles heel of ours moving forward and we looked at our wide play, final balls and finishing before the game. Therefore it was fantastic to see in the opening exchanges that we were able to work the ball wide, reach the byline, cut the ball back and allow Harvey a golden opportunity in the middle of the goal to tuck away the first goal. Shortly after Aiman found space down the channel and beat the goalkeeper 1v1 to make it 2-0 in quick succession.

Swapping David and Diedrick to their natural wider positions saw MCM continuously exploit the wide areas and good wide play by David saw him beat his man, cut the ball back and allow Harvey another easy chance between the goalposts to make it 3-0 with an emphatic finish. The same occurred again when David found joy again going round the outside of his man and getting a shot off that squirmed just over the line for 4-0.

Bar a blip at the back and a lack of game management, the boys implemented everything that was asked of them and ran out deserved 4-1 winners in a game that could have produced more goals.

MVP: David - Listened well to instruction and was rewarded with his hard work forwards and backwards with a goal and an assist.

Score: 4-1
